Homework #4

A
As I was reading this talk by Elder Ballard, I continued to think that I have made a lot of excuses for not sharing the gospel. When I think about sharing the gospel, I think, "I'm at BYU-Idaho. Everyone here is probably Mormon. I don't need to share my beliefs because we should believe in the same thing." But this talk gave me new insight because I was more able to realize I can make a difference and tell people what I think and know to be true, just by posting a simple facebook status or making a blog. If we have the means to share the Gospel of Christ, I think that we should more than be willing to serve our Heavenly Father in a positive and uplifting manner.

Homework #2

A
1. The reason it is important to create a high level plan for your website is because if you don't plan for everyones needs, you may have an unbalanced design that is not user friendly, or may not work for everyone. Building a website is like building a house, you must have the architechtual design before you can start to build the house. The same goes for a website; if you don't have a plan in order, then you will have a shoddy website that either the client or customer may not like.

2. There are seven steps to planning a website and they are the basic steps you will need to take to  have a successful project. They are: 1. Define project requirements, 2. Conduct research and analysis, 3. Develop design, 4. Build, 5. Test, 6. Deploy, and last is 7. Maintain.

3. An information architect analyzes, organizes and labels information on the Web to be intuitive and usable. The ten major roles of an information architect are:
1. Primary audience goals.
2. Personas
3. Current content inventory
4. Competitive analysis
5. Content strategy
6. Content outline
7. Content gap analysis
8. Site diagram
9. Page description diagrams
10. Wiregrames

Homework #1

B. "What It Takes To Be Great"
Collin is saying that in his article that from research, greatness doesn't come from natural born talent. If you are able to do a skill especially well, you are able to succeed. Some examples of this could be Tiger Woods, who started at a very young age developing his skill and because he was able to do this skill especially well, he is able to be great. You must put many hours into the thing you are trying to develop. Those who achieve greatness are continuously learning; most of us learn someting fairly quickly at the beginning, but our learning tends to slow the more we know about a subject. Those who have achieved greatness in our eyes learn at a consistent pace, not slowing down.

C.
1. The internet would be defined as a collection of computers and other devices that are connected to each other. The World Wide Web would be defined as a collection of software and protocols installed on most if not all of the computers connected to the internet. What that means to me, if that it consists of all the web pages that are stored on the internet. The difference between the two is that the internet houses the World Wide Web.

2.  A Web server is a computer program that delivers (serves) content, such as Web pages, using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), over the World Wide Web. The term Web server can also refer to the computer or virtual machine running the program. A web server recieves the clients request for a web page, and it sends the IP to the computer to recieve the web page.

3.  A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. The primary purpose of a web browser is to bring information resources to the user.

4. A URL stands for Universal Resource Locator. Is is the computers specific number that connects pages to names.

5. Three core technologies that make up the web are addresses, protocols and external links. An address can be the URL or it can be the name of a website. A protocol on the web is
